Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! My name is Patty Berger, and I teach eighth-grade Language Arts and seventh-grade Religion and Health. This is my thirteenth year as an eighth-grade homeroom teacher.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in English from Ohio Dominican College in 1991 and completed my Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Ohio Dominican University in December 2008. This year and last, I have been taking classes and training to enhance my understanding of standards-based instruction and assessment.
I enjoy working with the eighth graders during their final year of grade school. This is a busy transition year, closing the elementary chapter of their lives and preparing for high school. There are many exciting experiences in eighth grade: outdoor education camp, previewing high schools, and yearbook creation. One of the best parts of my job is collaborating with my partner teacher, Stephanie Maloney, to create lessons for the entire eighth grade. We design lessons that combine our content areas and technology to best challenge and enrich our students.
Teaching Religion to seventh graders is truly a blessing. I am exploring and deepening my faith along with the students. It is humbling and awe-inspiring to see how we are all a part of God's Kingdom.
My husband, Dave, and I have five children who graduated from St. Pius X. In my free :) time, I enjoy reading, attending my kids' sporting events, and watching football. Go Hawks!
As a St. Pius X alumna and parent, I can think of no better school to educate my children (and yours).
