Here are some films I enjoy because they are both entertainging and convey a good message. The Source
The Breakfast Club. Watch this with your parents. Seriously. It is rated PG-13 for the content of some scenes, but I think it is worth a look for the lessons learned. Plus, parts of it are seriously funny.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Peter Jackson version). The battle of good v. evil. Need I say more?
The Abyss. Get your parents' permission, because there is a lot of cursing in this film, but it is the story of one man willing to die to save the world. Even people who don't like him. Hmmmm... sound familiar?
The Princess Bride. Fencing, fighting, chases, escapes, miracles, true love.
This is a short list of some faith-themed books that make good reading.
, by James Michner. This is the story of Judaism from hunters and gatherers to the 1960's. Although historical fiction, it gives insight into what it means to really value and live your faith, despite changing and challenging times. The Tao of Pooh
, by Benjamin Hoff. Winnie the Pooh + Buddhism = really valuable life lessons! Short chapters, easy to read, powerful ideas. The Inferno
, by Dante. OK, you probably won't sit and read this cover to cover, but pick it up from time to time and peep a chapter. It will make you think!
